How To

How to make wooden joints

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. We will use the pocket hole joint, which is drilling holes in the wood to join them. This method works great if your wood is straight and smooth. If your wood isn't straight or flat, you might want to try another method, such as dowel joinery. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. You will then drill 3/4" deep holes through each piece of wood with a jigsaw, handheld drilling machine, or hand-held drill.
  2. Sand Smooth. The wood's edges can be sanded to prevent splitting.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue to both the ends of the wood. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before you clamp the pieces together.
  4. Secure the pieces together. After the glue has dried properly, clamp the pieces together to make sure they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim any excess wood surrounding the joint once the glue has dried completely.

To be able to turn the pieces inside-out, leave enough room between them.
